Home Sweet Home, and a Little Bit of Redneck.

So this weekend I went to visit The Homefront. That is, the land where I grew up and became the remarkable celebrity that I am, and where The Parentals still reside. A great time was had by all.

We planted a flower garden for my mom. Then we practiced High Speed Gardening in the regular (that is, vegetable) garden before the Hurricane hit. (It's a great story; just ask me.)

We had a picnic.

I helped with chores. And I have not lost my touch. Or my sense of Style.

I loved the enormous boots. Complete with a layer of "That's Not Mud" on the bottom. Nothing like that sort of "Welcome Home" to really, well... welcome you home. But I was a big hit with the cows. They came right on up to me. (Particularly when I came bearing buckets of feed.)

But alas, I couldn't help but be just the teensiest bit amused that my brother has fenced in most of the front yard to be a pasture for his (future) prize-winning sheep.

But they are just the loveliest sheep, after all. I'm sure that will work out just great.

Oh Beautiful Springtime

First off, last week was Hospital Week, and they gave us a coupon for some free flowers from the local greenhouse. Yay! Here are my selections:

Also, John finally got the garden tilled, (Good job, John!) and then I planted my baby planties, and they are very happy now. Do they look happy?

Finally, as you may recall, this little plant had been looking pretty dead, but take a look at it now! It appears it surviveth afterall!

All in all, a successful day.

Um...

Imagine this: He was new, very nervous, (unless you ask him. He wasn't nervous at all.) with a girlfriend who is a nurse (uh-oh) and had done extensive research on the internet (no!), most of which he did not understand, but he clearly thought he did (illustrating well the problem with "google medicine"). Anyway. Picturing? So at one point during the encounter, he is exhibiting his vast newly-acquired knowledge of human anatomy by saying "That's where the kidneys are. There are two of them, right? Which one is on the left?"

To which one can only respond, "The left one."

Hmmm. :(

Happy Mother's Day!

To all the Mothers out there... (among my loyal bloggies, they number approximately 2, one being my own.) I dedicate this cake.

And right about now I can just picture my Dear Mother rolling her eyes, and lamenting how I never picked up any sense of propriety. She tried, really she did. I blame my medical education. It gives you skewed boundaries. Anyway, as I was cracking up in shock over the absurdness of this cake, and knowing that Dear Mother would perhaps not find it as funny as I, I think of how well she has tolerated me. Like when I sort of (accidentally) instigated song writing at the dinner table about prostate exams, for instance. I doubt she was impressed at our creativity, but we were all too old to spank at that point, so she just had to shrug her shoulders and manage a weak smile. I'm pretty sure she loves us anyway.

Happy Mother's Day, Mom! We love you too!

And, to see more hilarious Mother's Day Cakes, go here: http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/ which is where I found this awesome cake. And then just keep reading, because it is HILARIOUS. Seriously. Do it.

And on a more serious note, our adoption agency included this little story in their weekly update. I thought it was cute (John says it's corny. Ok, maybe a little.) :)

A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow,
but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?"

God said, "Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you."

The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don't have
to do anything but sing and smile to be happy."

God said, "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you.
And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy."

Again the small child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand
when people talk to me if I don't know the language?"

God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words
you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will
teach you how to speak."

"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?"

God said, "Your angel will place your hands together and will teach
you how to pray."

"Who will protect me?"

God said, "Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life."

"But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore."

God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach
you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you."

At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth
could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to leave
now, please tell me my angel's name."

God said, You will simply call her, "Mom."

I Rest My Case

So the LN* was out today. Just trying to make us look bad. (I'm sure that's his true intent.) And on a Sunday, to boot. Tsk, tsk.

I guess he does sort of look just the teensiest bit amusing in his chemistry-laiden backpack.

Also, I saw some birdies. Here's a cute one.

I Should Have Known Better

than to move next door to people like "these." I should have run away when they mentioned that they had their back yard featured in some sort of Lawn and Garden publication, and that they were the co-presidents of the Regional Beautifulest Backyard Anonymous group. But did I? No. Of course not. I went ahead and signed on he dotted line, making me officially neighbors to the Lawn Nazis.

So now... can you guess where my yard stops, and their yard starts?
(note: this picture does not do justice to the abrupt and obvious difference in our respective yards, but it's the best I've got for ya. It looks a little better if you zoom in.)

In other news... I do have a pretty white flower tree!
